Antognolla Golf Club

Leaving the motorway that connects Perugia and Florence, we are immediately surrounded by nature and we wind our short way from the hotel towards Antognolla golf course (par 71, 6789 yards). As soon as we step from the car we begin to soak up Umbria's historic atmosphere. The golf course stretches out into a green valley in the shadow of Antognolla Castle (dating from 1200). At the reception we receive a warm and professional welcome from Linda, the club secretary, who quickly begins to organise our tour and in 5 minutes we are on our buggies, map in hand, and entering onto the green carpet of the course.

From hole 1, whilst still aware of the naturally beautiful and historic setting, our attention focuses on the course and we begin to notice its technical merits, which peak at hole 8, the signature par 5 hole of the course. Hole 18 (par 4, handicap 11, 392 yards) brings us back towards the bottom of the valley and the entrance to the beautiful rustic club house and Il Caldaro restaurant, renovated stable buildings at the base of the magnificent Umbrian hills.

Before we eat, we take advantage of the relax room with its wide screen TV and magazines. We then enjoy traditional rustic food, local wine and fantastic views of the Castle. After the meal, we relax outside with a digestif and soak up the sun.
